Overview

Everything changes. The Wheel of Fortune captures the fundamental truth that life moves in cycles: what goes up comes down, what falls will rise again. This card arrives at turning points, reminding you that your current situation, good or bad, is temporary.

Symbolism

A great wheel inscribed with the letters T-A-R-O (or R-O-T-A, the Latin word for wheel) turns perpetually. In the four corners, the Living Creatures of Ezekiel, angel, eagle, lion, and bull, represent the fixed signs of the zodiac and stability amid change. A Sphinx sits atop the wheel, embodying equilibrium and riddles, while the serpent Typhon descends on one side, representing the descent into the material world. The wheel itself has no driver. It simply turns.

Upright Meaning

In love, the Wheel signals a destined shift. A relationship may enter a new phase, chance encounters become significant, or patterns finally break. Pay attention to what the universe keeps putting in your path. In career, expect turning points: a promotion, a new opportunity, or a fortunate break that changes your trajectory. This card reminds you to act when the wheel is turning in your favor, because it won't stay there forever. Spiritually, the Wheel teaches non-attachment. Growth comes from understanding that you are not your circumstances. Your ability to stay centered while everything rotates around you is the real lesson.

Reversed Meaning

Reversed, the Wheel suggests resistance to a change that's already underway. You might be clinging to a situation that has run its course, or feeling victimized by circumstances beyond your control. Bad luck, setbacks, and delays are possible, but they're part of the cycle. The reversal can also signal that you're stuck in a repeating pattern, and the wheel won't move until you change something fundamental.

When You Draw This Card

Accept that change is coming and position yourself to ride it. You can't stop the wheel, but you can choose how you respond to the turn.
